How to do a Great Interview

Well Done! Your CV has managed to catch the hiring managers’ eye, and you’ve landed an interview. You’re nearly there, and to help you with your career path, we have put together a few tips to increase your chances of getting that job offer.

So, you should have enough time to prepare for the interview.  If the interview is location based, take some time to plan your route (or even have a trial run if you can) to ensure you arrive in good time allowing for any potential delays.  And remote interviews have become the norm, as we know, and so ensure you have the necessary technology and space ready to do the interview with minimal interruptions.

And even if the interview is online, it is still important to look professional and presentable, and be appropriately dressed.

Now it’s time to do your homework! Learn about the company, what they do, their vision and mission, and company values. It can be also be useful to know about any recent company projects or news in case it comes up in conversation.  This lets the hiring manager know that you are up to speed with industry news and that you are really interested in the position.
Be familiar with the job spec and be able to present skills that are relevant to the role when going through work experience, and include more detail about recent successes that had measurable results.  The STAR technique provides a useable model in answering competency questions.  And if a technical person is going to be on the interview panel, ensure that you have revised your technical skills and are aware of updated procedures and standards.

Hiring Managers want to know what you can bring to the role in terms of soft skills, so be prepared to answer questions on your strengths and weaknesses, and why you want to work for the company and the role.

And don’t be afraid to ask questions – have a number of questions lined up for the Hiring Managers around the role, the team, what a typical day will look like, and also what the expectation is from the successful candidate. You can also find out more about long term career progression opportunities at this stage.
Finally, don’t forget to remember who you are meeting (name and job title)!

Good luck!

How to Write a Killer CV

You are ready to take that next step in your career, and it is now time to update your CV. So, what is the key to bagging that interview for your dream job? Our experienced recruitment specialists have put together a list of tips to help get your CV noticed.
BUT before you get started, here are a few questions to ask yourself….

  1. Have you scrutinised the job description? Ensure you have thoroughly read and understood what the employer is looking for? Highlight keywords, skills and experience.
  2. Think about your message – your unique selling point – this needs to be clear and compelling.

OK, so now you can start putting the proverbial pen to paper…..

  1. Decide on a simple but effective format to ensure your CV stands out. This should make it easy for the hiring manager to read. White space, bullet points, and bold used sparingly and appropriately, can help.
  2. The flow should be clear, concise and logical.
  • Start with a brief but well -articulated opening statement that is aspirational yet realistic, and relevant to the role.
  • Provide a chronological outline of your career to date highlighting relevant knowledge, skills and achievements. Include more detail about recent successes that had measurable positive results. And remember those strong key words!
  • If a previous employer is not well known, it can be useful to include a brief description of what they do (to save the hiring manager from having to look them up).
  • Include an overview of your characteristics and traits

And before you press the “send” button, double-check it for errors by doing a quick spell check.
If you need assistance with your CV our team can help. Get in touch and we will be happy to guide you on how to achieve a great CV.

“At our company we manufacture several different pharmaceutical based tablet products. As production requirements fluctuate and new products are introduced, we need the ability to adapt to these challenging workloads. Team Horizon have been able to assist with our contingent engineering and scientific needs. To have the ability to call on additional engineering and scientific resources at short notice allows us to maintain our overall outputs but also allows us to execute new projects in an aggressively timely manner.

Team Horizon’s extensive pharmaceutical manufacturing knowledge lends to greater project collaboration and project management and therefore a better outcome for us. This company’s key attribute is that it was set up by engineers who I can rely on, as they know the pharmaceutical manufacturing sector. I would highly recommend companies in the life sciences manufacturing sector to look to Team Horizon for their project management and contingent engineering needs.”

“Excellent recruitment team who really care about their candidates and enjoy helping them reach their career goals.”
