Team Horizon is seeking a EHS Specialist (initial 12-month contract) to join out client in Galway, who are a global leader in the medical device industry. The EHS Specialist II will assist the HSE Team in ensuring compliance and beyond by developing and implementing the EHS elements of the Safety Management System, ISO 45001:2018.
You will act as a central point for day-to-day EHS information and issues from a Production and/or Facilities function.

What you will be doing:
- Implement HSE policy and procedures, incorporating legislative requirements, industry best practice and other requirements related to the Safety Management System (SMS).
- Provide guidance, advice and support to management on HSE policy and strategy and ensure overall compliance to these standards by the rest of the BSC business.
- Participate in audits, inspections and performance monitoring of HSE compliance across the business.
- Identify and support HSQE training requirements to BSC staff and Contractors to ensure adequate training is provided to BSC employees and Contractors where required.
- Work with the EHS team to ensure the development and implementation of the SMS is carried out in a holistic and integrated manner.
- Ensure the SMS is kept up to date with all Health and Safety related information, and evaluate its compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Provide reports and key Health and Safety metrics as required to the head of HSE in relation to Health and Safety aspects of BSC work.
- Ensure statutory reporting of accidents, incidents and ill health is undertaken in accordance with current legislation and procedures.
- Initiate or implement initiatives in relation to improving Environment, Health and Safety KPIs.
- Participate in ongoing HSE projects as required.
- Escalate risks and issues to the HSE Manager as appropriate.
- Work with the Asset Management and Operations & Maintenance teams as appropriate.
- Any other duties as assigned.
What you need to apply:
- Occupational, Health and Safety Degree or other relevant 3rd level qualification.
- Minimum of 5+ years experience ideally in Medical Device Industry or in a senior EHS role.
- 5+ years’ experience in an EHS role.
- Formal health and safety qualification (e.g. FETAC/IOSH H&S certificate, diploma, BSc).
- Detailed knowledge of legislation and ability to interpret and translate such information into business policy and procedures.
- Working knowledge of HSE management systems, aspects, and controls.
- A persuasive influencer and negotiator.
- Self-confidence, maturity, discipline, and a commercial approach to establish credibility at all levels in the business up to executive management level.
- Proven ability to think strategically and maintain strategic focus while operating across many functional areas in a constantly changing environment.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully influence key internal and external stakeholders and identify external issues which will impact business performance.
- Proven ability to act as an advocate for the development and implementation of change.
- Experience in developing and maintaining effective strategic partnerships with key stakeholders.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Very strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to successfully implement and execute programmes and drive high performance.
